My Self-Care Routine
Hello my loveys! This week I wanted to talk to you guys about self-care: why it’s so important, different ways to practice and how I incorporate it into my daily life. As you all dive deeper into your health/fitness journeys you will naturally begin to practice self-care more because A) it’s a way to stay sane in our hectic and busy lives B) you’ll realize your body functions better with proper recovery.
My favorite way that I practice self-care is a by taking a daily Epsom salt bath, which if you follow my instagram stories you will see that I almost never miss! When you take an Epsom salt bath it releases magnesium into the water that helps relieve inflammation and ease muscle aches and pains. Epsom salt also softens the skin, helps with digestion and can subdue appetite so I usually take my bath after dinner with a nice hot cup of tea. Baths are an inexpensive and realistic way to practice self-care daily if you have the opportunity.
Another way to practice self-care is by participating in the latest health trend: cryotherapy. In case you don’t know what cryotherapy is, it’s a chamber that you enter for about 3 minutes and the temperature is around -260 to -300 degrees so your body is essentially working to keep warm to battle the cold temps but only for 3 minutes. Cryo is definitely not cheap, however the benefits are definitely worth the price. Whole body cryotherapy is specifically designed to help with athletic recovery, muscle repair, and reduction of chronic pain and inflammation. They also say that one cryotherapy session burn up to 600 calories and that repeated use can boost your metabolism. I have been doing cryotherapy since the summer of 2017 and have to say I am addicted. I even did a YouTube video on Cryo which you can find on my channel. My favorite cryotherapy studios in NYC are: Cryofuel, Quick Cryo, Higher Dose and Chill Space.
Baths & Cryo have really been my go to self-care practices for some time now but self-care doesn’t always have to be about muscle recovery. Reading a book, cooking, getting a massage, exercising, meditating or even staring at a wall thinking about nothing are also ways of practicing self-care. Self-care is really about taking time out of the day to focus on YOURSELF. Me time as I like to call it. Whatever you need to do to better your health and wellness, that is what self-care truly is. I encourage all of you guys to try and practice self-care for 30 minutes – 1 hour each day. I guarantee that it will better your mind, make you stronger and help you cope with all of life’s crazy challenges.
